Match Report | Dove Double

Readers Division One

New Mills 118/7 v Dove Holes 185ao

Dove Holes win by 67 runs

Dove finished the season with a trip to New Mills and the hosts asked Dove to bat first. Despite losing a couple of early wickets the middle order of Joe Hall (22) and Tom Forder (27) steadied the ship. James Gemmell top scored with 34 and Dan Waterhouse smashed 27 from 16 balls to propel Dove to 185 all out.

In reply Dove picked up regular wickets to stall the run chase. Dave Cartledge was pick of the bowlers with 4 for 24 but Dove could only pick up 3 further wickets as New Mills finished on 118/7 67 runs short of the target.

The result meant that Dove would finish second to Woodley, who lost one less game finishing 20 points clear at the top.

Division Two

Dove Holes 121ao v Birch Vale 90ao

Dove Holes win by 31 runs

The Second Team hosted Birch Vale first team and the visitors asked Dove to bat first. Dove were reduced to 6 for 3 but skipper Joe Gregory hit a fine 52 to anchor the innings. Mark Hill added 17 and Mick Johnson 20 as Dove posted 121 all out.

In reply, opening bowler Cory Flint bowled a superb spell of 4 overs for 24 runs as Dove sensed a last day victory. Mark Hill (2 for 35) and Joe Gregory (3 for 11) backed up Cory's spell as the visitors were all out for 90 runs, sealing a 31 run victory.

The result meant that Dove would finish bottom of Division Two, however the lads can be proud of the way they have competed against First Team opposition all season.
