Match Report

1st Team Tintwistle Home Dove Holes 1st XI hosted Tintwistle on another scorcher of a weekend. Tintwistle won the toss and elected to bat on what was a very good track. S Critchlow and D Walker opened the bowling restricting the run rate with some very disciplined bowling, supported by some good fielding. Dove were in a strong position at drinks with the visitors on 52-3. Handforth rode his luck and batted well for 57. D Cartledge (3-44) and K Jones (2-36) then entered the attack and backed up the openers containing the Tintwistle batsmen, Handforth however remained at crease. Critchlow (4-37) re entered the attack and looked to be cleaning up the tail but Pool (43) hung around leaving Tintwistle on 157-9. D Jones and Vernon took about the task. But frequent wickets really restricted dove. Jack Gregory and Forder (24) looked to be stabilising the innings taking dove to 61 with plenty of overs and wickets remaining but then both were dismissed in successive overs. Harris (2-14) and Nixon (4-30) were the pick of the bowlers. S Cartledge batted well for 25 and looked to be taking dove home by stabilising the innings. However, as frequent wickets fell he looked to be running out of partners at the crease. Once again the batting let down what was a fantastic bowling performance and Dove were 111 all out with several overs to spare. 2nd Team Tintwistle Away A trip to Tintwistle is never easy and when Rob won the toss the batters were required to bat 45 overs in the early season sun. Only Paul showed any knowledge of how to bat time and when he was eventually out for a good 43 the rest of us should have been disappointed in a total of 105 in 34 overs. Our bowling looks good and with Tint 40-3 it was game on at drinks but a few streaky fours and some poor fielding got the hosts home with Dan being the pick of the attack. So only 3 points for the day and another defeat at Tintwistle which is becoming our bogey ground. Congratulations to Dove Holes football club reserves, who celebrated their cup win in style in the club. Also, a huge thanks to Pam who hosted a bumper crowd in the club house for the football presentation evening and the FA cup final.
