1st Team v Dinting On a warm but windy day dove travelled to dinting looking for their first win of the season. In the dukes absence Crich lost the toss with Knight electing to bat. Dove started well taking 2 early wickets, one each for Dez and Crich with Harwick and D Stringer both edging behind to jones reducing dinting to 19 for 2. This brought dintings overseas signing to the crease who somehow didn't get bowled first ball by Crich by a ball that turned him square. Dove then had a sloppy spell with the Aussie (46) and Parker who batted well for 73 taking advantage of some loose bowling putting on a partnership of 96 before Stonehouse, playing one too many shots found flint at mid on who took the catch at the second attempt to give big T his first wicket of the day. Dove then tightened things up with T and Cory bowling well in tandem to get dove back in the game. Flint took the wicket of Knight who smashed a full toss straight to Dez, Theron then clean bowled Brightmore for 2 with a beauty to leave dinting 118 for 5. This brought M Stringer to the crease who should have been caught at slip early on off Flint and survived a very dubious run out which he then took full advantage of making 39. Crich returned and bowled Parker for 73 which brought Wyche to the crease with the score on 174. Dez was brought back into the the attack but this was short lived as he fell to the infamous "Riley rule". This however did not deter Dove as Joe Gregory given the task to complete Dez's over bowled Wyche with his first ball, but I'm sure you've all heard about that by now. The skip then clean bowled R Stringer with Cory removing M Stringer to leave Dinting 195 for 9. Gerard and Liendenburg secured the 5th bonus point before Gerard edged behind off T to give Jones his 3rd catch of the day, Dinting finishing on 206 which was seen as around par at the break. The stand in skip the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 41, T with 3-60 and Cory 2-52 and Dez 1-45. In the absence of Vernon, Joe Gregory was given the task of opening and played a couple nice 4s before holing out to mid off to give Rudolph his first wicket. This brought jack to the crease who never really got going and departed for 11 lbw again to Rudolph. Rick Forder was next in in his first game of the season and played a couple of nice shots before departing for 9 bowled by R Stringer. The score was now 59 for 3 with Jones going well at the other end. S Cartledge was next in and put on a good partnership of 54 with Jones playing the spin well before Jones departed for a very well made 55. This brought A Critchlow to the crease who put on another good partnership with Cartledge who both played sensibly and looked to be guiding Dove to victory before the returning R Stringer removed Cartledge lbw for 36 with the score now on 165 for 5 with 9 overs remaining. Critchlow departed soon after bowled by Stringer for a well made 31. Tom Green and the skip were now at the crease and put on a good 28 and looked to get us over the line before tom unfortunately found Knight at cover for 15 off Rudolph that left dove on 195 for 7. Dove needing 12 off 2 overs. It sadly wasn't to be as crich skied a high full toss off Stringer and then a horrible mix up that resulted in Cory being ran out coming back for 2. This brought T to the crease who fell to Stringer lbw to give dinting victory with dove 8 short. All in all a good effort from the understrength dove side who battled well but unfortunately we're agonisingly short. We go again next week away at Mottram. 2nd Team v New Mills Dove got off to a bad start after losing the toss and being put into bat by New Mills at the Priority SMS Arena, pinch hitting opener J Norton was run out without facing a ball in the first over. Two more wickets followed both going to the impressive J Taylor before young Reece Johnson was joined at the crease by evergreen Rob Jones their partnership steadied the Dove Holes ship before Jones tried to hit one to Chapel and only succeeded in skying the ball and was caught just inside the boundary. Johnson continued to look excellent with the bat before being caught at slip from another excellent delivery from J Taylor who finished with 4-30 from his 12 overs J Hadfield then chipped in with 3 wickets as Dove were bowled out for 147. The New Mills innings got off to a good start with the opening pair putting on 40 for the first wicket before S Mills was caught by Poulton off the bowling of a fired up Waterhouse. P Jackson continued the great start with some resolute batting and made his way to a match winning 70 not out, K Collins grabbed a couple of late wickets for Dove but it was to little to late as the Millers made it to the target with 5 overs to spare. Next week the Seconds entertain Mottram at home and will be hoping to bounce back with a win. Juniors The Under 15s won both their games this week. At Hazel Grove a strong batting performance saw Dove post 111 - Johnson, Ridgeway & Collins all retiring posting 30s. An excellent bowling and fielding performance meant Hazel Grove were short in their reply posting 106 D Gibson 2 overs 2 maidens 3 wickets. The Under 15s carried the performance against Hazel Grove into the match at Whaley Bridge. Dove posted 119/5 and Whaley ended well short on 77/9
