Match Report - Dove Triple!

First Team

DCCL Division One

Dove Holes 45/1 v Hazel Grove 44ao

Dove Holes win by 9 wickets

Dove welcomed Hazel Grove to Hallsteads on a pleasant day after the week’s deluge.

As ever this season Dove lost the toss and Grove decided to have a bat in front of a large away following- a decision the captain would soon come to regret as the Dove opening attack ripped through Groves top order to leave them 4-4.

The first to fall was Burke who shouldered arms to Crich only for the ball to nip back and hit the top off. Higson soon followed to a great catch from Baggy off Gilly- diving one handed at point. A moment replayed on the big screen many times after the game.

The oversea and Evans were next to go lbw off crich and Gilly respectively. Knott and Hodkinson then dug in for a while putting on 26 before hodgkinson chipped gilly to mid off with the score on 30. Gilly then cleaned up Coram and Roger’s

Before the Duke got in on the act bowling D Nunn. Gilly cleaned up C Nunn to finish with superb figures of 6-14 off his 11. The final wicket of Knott fell as he tried to hit out off the Duke - caught by Grego with Grove finishing on 44.

A great effort by Dove with ball and in the field.

Hally and Dj opened up with Hally taking the positive approach looking in good touch before he fell for 19 to a good catch by Higson off the bowling of Hodgkinson.

This brought Eddie to the crease who carried on his hitting from Friday night with 11 off 5 balls- Dj finished things off with a 4 with Dove knocking it off for 1 to pick up maximum points.

MOTM sponsored by the president Roger Marshall was Dan Gilbride for a superb spell of bowling.

Second Team

DCCL Division Two

Hazel Grove 62ao v Dove Holes 72ao

Dove Holes win by 10 runs

On a sunny Saturday after a miserable week Dove 2s travelled to Hazel Grove for a second team clash. Stand in on field captain Cory lost the toss on a Bowlers wickets and Dove were put into Bat. Dove started poorly with some good opening from Grove reducing Dove to a measly 23-4. Wayne Collins and Mark Vernon steadied the ship putting together a good 34 partnership before both fell in quick succession. The Dove holes tail also struggled as Holes slumped to a measly 72 all out.

Although they had posted a poor total Dove were fired up and motivated to defend the score. Openers Flint (3-15) and Green (6-23) bowled superbly while being backed up by tight fielding and a Kieren Collins catch of the century dove reduced the host to 40-9. A late stand from Grove and a controversial 6 meant grove only needed 11 to win before young Roy beat the Bat and Keego whipped the bails off to give Dove a hard earned win.

The Wayne Collins player of the game was Stephen Green

Sunday Team

Mottram 130/9 v Dove Holes 138/8

Dove Holes win by 8 runs

Dove 3s returned to action on a red hot sunday afternoon in Mottram. Skipper Ridgway wo the toss and decided to have a bat.

Openers Wayne and Dawse got dove off to a steady start before a small collapse saw Young Roy take to the crease.

Collins departed for a well earned 29 while Roy batted brilliantly for a maiden senior 50. Dove finished on 138 at the halfway stage.

After a brilliantly prepared buffet (big thanks to Mottram CC) the dove lads took to the field with openers Rodney 'Trotter' Gibson and Skipper Ridgway bowling a steady few overs to pin the hosts back at 12-2.

Some great bowling spread across the whole team took the game to the last over with Mottram requiring 11 from the last 6 balls. Rodney held his nerve in the final over as the hosts fell short of the target. Another good win for the 3s. Up the Dove 🕊
