Dove Holes 205/9 v New Mills 92ao

Dove Holes win by 113 runs

Dove finally got their season underway at home to New Mills. Gregos coin tossing skills haven’t improved over the winter and New Mills chose to bowl first.

The opening pair of Jones and Hall got dove off to a good start- putting on 41 for the first wicket. New mills then pegged back Dove with Steven’s taking the opening pair and the oversea getting Eddie to leave dove 45-3.

Jack looked good before falling to a good catch and gully and the oversea got baggy as well with dove in trouble at 65-5. Gem got a quick 18 before he fell.

This left dove 89-6 with Gilly and MT at the crease. These 2 batted very sensibly punishing anything loose and put on 60 before MT went for 19. The returning Waterhouse joined gilly and hit a quick 25 before falling with the score on 191. Gilly guided dove to maximum batting points with his 70no the standout innings of the day.

In reply gilly and crich opened up picking up a wicket a piece early doors to dash new mills hopes of a successful chase. Dove picked up regular wickets from there on. The evergreen Duke picking up 4 wickets, Gilly a further 2 and the returning Waterhouse a further 2 including ball of the day bowing kilner through the gate. New Mills finishing on 92.

Motm sponsored by Emma Lomax was Gilly who was also most fined for the day for forgetting his spikes and dropping 12 catches.

Big shoutout to the grounds team.

The ground was in outstanding condition considering the rain we’ve had and produced a very good track to enable Dove to get maximum points.

DCCL Division Two

Hollingworth 90/9 v Dove Holes 89ao

Hollingworth win by 1 wicket

On the opening weekend of the 2024 season the Dove holes 2s travelled to face Hollingworth first eleven. On an outfield that looked like it could have been bailed by Doves own Ryan Cartledge and a soft track it wasn’t ideal that skipper Gregory lost the toss and dove where put into bat.

After an early wicket Dove worked well to recover with Collins and Johnson putting on a long 40 partnership before a miscommunication led to the latter being ran out. Collins later departed for a solid 28 before skipper Gregory got to work scoring 28 before being caught. Dove holes wickets fell quickly as the batting order collapsed to 87 all out.

After the break Dove came out to bowl attempting to defend a measly total. Travis Green opened the bowling constantly testing the Hollingsworth batsman with excellent line, length and movement and ended the day with excellent figures of 5-20 off 12 overs.

Dove worked very hard in the field with Mark Hill and Ted Johnson also picking up wickets as well as the vice captain picking up a run out. With the game in the balance dove didn’t have enough runs and the total was knocked off with a single wicket left.

A good effort on a terrible surface and onto chapel next week. The bulls head Monyash man of the match was Stephen Green.
