2019 Season Review

We are delighted to be able to start the 2019 season review giving details of our successes on the field. Rob Hawkes, in his first season as captain, led the second team to a memorable league & cup double. The Seconds dominated the league and were top for the majority of the season eventually winning the league by over 40 points with an impressive 21 wins.

After nearly getting knocked out of the Hawke Trophy in the first round, and sneaking a 1 wicket win, the second team managed to reach the final against Newton at Pott Shrigley. It was an entertaining final and an all-round team effort saw the seconds knock off 164 with ease. Ben Bagshaw deservedly claimed man of the match and the top shelf took a hammering as celebrations at DHCC ran late on into the night as Dove had their first cup success for 25 years.

The First Team, boosted by a couple of new signings, started the season well and had a good Bissenden Cup run before falling short, again, and losing in the Semi Final to Broadbottom. League form also dipped and they finished up, disappointingly, in sixth place.

Once again, we missed out on a place at the 20/20 finals day. Whaley Bridge, who set their own start times to assist their farming community, beat us in the final group game.

Overall, on the pitch it has to be considered a successful year. We have a First Team in Division One & cup semi-finalists and our Second Team are League & Cup Double Winners! We also managed to put full teams out for every game, where so many failed to do so.

Players of the season this year were Sean Critchlow 28 wickets, and Dan Waterhouse 44 wickets. It was a bowler’s season at Dove!

With the bat, over 300 runs were scored in the First Team by Jack Gregory, Dan Jones and Tom Forder. In the Second Team, Reece Johnson and Paul Scowen also accumulated over 300 runs.

Once again the wickets and outfield looked and played superbly, thanks to the continued hard work of Andy. As we continue to look after our facilities we have been able to successfully host a white ball Junior County Game and school games. We have already successfully carried out improvements to the square so we should continue to see excellent playing facilities in 2020!

Off the pitch, we have continued to reinvest our hard-earned capital into superb facilities and equipment for the club. We have upgraded our visual and audio equipment in the pavilion. This investment has allowed us to continue to use the pavilion for many club events such as race nights, quizzes and of course Carterfest8! We have also been able to hire the pavilion out for several private functions and we hope to do more this year - please keep us in mind and spread the word about our excellent facilities. We have plenty coming up in 2020 so keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates.

In 2019 we also invested in our own larger function marquee which helped contribute to the success of many events, especially the club's annual fund raiser 20/20 competition.

The provision of the club for the football team after their home games remains very successful and continues to bring in revenue in the closed season.

Our popular bar and facilities have seen an increased use by non-club members and members of the local community. The introduction of our membership scheme is proving successful and we hope this will encourage the wider community to get involved at the club.

All these achievements are down to the graft and determination of all members; remember we are all volunteers, giving up endless hours to achieve these tremendous outcomes. Please bear this in mind and give a little help when it is requested.

Thank you for the superb teas provided for the teams and for the many events. Again, more help is always needed and gratefully accepted. Big thanks also to the Monday gang, who continue to work away in the background, often unseen, but their work is much appreciated.

The clubman of the year award is yet to be announced …..

The treasurer will present his own report, but the financial turnover of this club is staggering. Thanks to Paul for keeping everything in order.

Thank you to all for your hard work and commitment, but more importantly keep on enjoying the game and the facilities we have built for ourselves.
