A Message From The President

Dove Holes Cricket Club wish to offer their sincere condolences to Whaley who only lost by three runs in a closely fought Final. It was a great pity that that the rain forced the game to be decided by the ‘Duckworth Lewis Method’ when it was poised to produce an extremely close and exciting finish.

Man of the match Jake Higginbottom gave of his all for Whaley taking 4 for 50 in his 8 overs and made 41 not out with the bat with a forceful innings that saw them ahead on the ‘Duckworth Lewis Method’ at times before play was sadly brought to a close due to rain. We trust that you will be on your holidays when our cricketing paths next cross!

Dove were able to rely on two timely crafted game saving knocks from Joe Hall and Tom Forder with 41 and 55 not out respectively along with a respectable match winning spell of 3 for 23 off 6 overs from Dan Gilbride.

Dove thank the League for its endeavours to stage the Competition, all the Clubs who took part in the earlier rounds, Newton and its members for pulling out all of the stops to successfully stage the game following a period of difficult weather conditions not forgetting their excellent pre-match publicity, Karl Williams and Paul Smith for braving the weather in white coats along with Martin Cooper for his usual thoughtful words at the Presentation of the award.

Lastly, but not least, Dove thank Whaley for the manner and spirit in which they contributed to the event and even though they were narrowly the losing side we have every confidence that they will return next Season to compete again hopefully successfully.

Mention must also be made of everyone who attended but in particular the much valued 60 or so Dove ‘aficionados’ who made the effort to travel down to Newton to support the occasion and their team. You never fail to amaze me with your loyal support and dedication to the Club.

Trusting that everyone will greatly enjoy the remainder of our Local Cricket Season and experience dryer climes!

Kindly regards

Roger Marshall

President
